Samsung S8500 Wave - Extremely Popular Smartphone
Samsung has been performing very well in the smartphone market with phones like Galaxy S and Jet. Now, the company is trying to further consolidate its position with the launch of the Samsung Wave. The Samsung S8500 is an extremely popular handset recording over a million sales in the first month since its launch. Another bold step taken by Samsung is the launch of its own Bada operating system to compete against the likes of Android and Windows OS and it seems to be paying off if the sales numbers are any indication.
The Samsung Wave is powered by ARM Cortex A8 1GHz and uses Samsung's TouchWiz user interface 3.0. It features a 3.3 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display which supports 16 million colors and has a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels. High-end features like accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, multi-touch input, smart unlock are part of the package.
Samsung S8500 boasts of a high resolution 5 mega pixel camera which can take images up to a resolution of 2592 X 1944 pixels and record videos at 30 frames per second. Features of the camera include autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, image stabilization, touch focus, video light, etc. An addition camera is also provided for video conferencing.
As with most of the smartphones these days, the Wave also offers social networking features. Apps like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter are preinstalled or can be downloaded from the App Store. Other applications include digital compass, image editor, organizer, Samsung Mobile navigator, etc. Multimedia features are offered in the form of a music player which can play MP3/WAV/WMA/EAAC+ file formats and a video player which can play MP4/WMV/Xvid/DivX file formats. Users can also access the internet with the help of a Dolfin browser which supports HTML, WAP 2.0/xHTML which means all sites will be available in high resolution.
Samsung Wave is a fantastic phone and is relatively cheap among its competitors. Also, Samsung is heavily promoting its Bada platform with various contests which means the App Store should soon start buzzing with innovative apps and games.
