Make a break from tradition…

As the festive party season is upon us it’s about time that we started to consider the perfect party look that we want to achieve this year. You know the one; that ideal world, glamorous look that will guarantee to turn heads for all the right reasons.

Evening elegance can come in so many different guises that it is important to spend some time exploring all the possibilities to find the right style for you rather than the first thing that was seen and deemed as suitable in the shop!

We all know the traditional take on evening wear, the little black dress; undeniably chic and glamorous which with some clever accessories has almost limitless possibilities. However we are also likely to have come across a brave individual who has stepped out in a coloured gown causing some evening dress envy amongst the party’s attendees.

If you are feeling brave enough to be ‘that girl’ and have decided to inject a little extra festive cheer to your seasonal wardrobe then consider red.

Embrace the signature style of one of Italy’s greatest designers and stand out in a Valentino esque scarlet gown, or use festive jewel tones and texture to create a modern, seductive look.

Bold colours mixed with feminine shapes were prevalent on the catwalks of the AW10 evening wear shows and they created a big impression. As a result we can expect to see many pieces inspired by the greats on the high street this year, making the designer look accessible to everyone.

If you chose to ditch the little black dress this year and make a bold statement with colour then there are a few key points to remember, the first being that less is more. A chic hairstyle and some seductive yet minimal make up is just enough, anymore can have the effect of risqué rather than glamour.

Also carefully consider your accessories, colour match but use a contrasting texture for something truly chic or if that becomes a bit of a headache use gold (particularly striking against red) or silver (to really emphasise jewel tones). Black accessories should again be used with caution; don’t over do it.

This should be all you need as a finishing touch to the head to toe look of Italian evening elegance.
