Sweating is something which is a natural phenomenon. We sweat during extremely hot weather conditions or while performing some kind of strenuous physical exercise. However, excessive sweating can be harmful. Excessive sweating in medical terms is called hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition where a body sweats in certain areas, in higher quantities than is normally required by the body. The common symptoms include excessive appearance of sweat on the hands and foot. The sweating of the body is controlled by the nervous system. When it comes to excessive sweating, it is mostly a function of the sympathetic nervous system over which the body has no control.

It is mostly a condition that is inherited and can affect anybody. A person suffering from this condition may develop a low self esteem. Hence, this condition can have an effect on his/her confidence levels and relationships. This condition is not disastrous to one’s health but needs to be cured anyhow.

It is important that certain steps are taken to stop excessive sweating. There is no sure shot cure of excessive sweating and it differs from person to person. There are certainly ways to control the condition, but one has to be patient while treating it. A person does not stop excessive sweating overnight.

Using an antiperspirant can reduce the sweat and the odour associated with excessive sweating. A good antiperspirant eliminates the sweating from the armpits which is one of the symptoms of excessive sweating.

Going for an ETS surgery is also one of the treatments of excessive sweating. In this, the doctor operates on the nerve that causes the body to sweat. He usually cuts the nerve that sends the signal, activating the sweat glands. A surgery only happens in rare cases.

Taking care of your personal hygiene is one of the simpler ways to stop excessive sweating. This includes cleaning your body and having regular baths (at least 2 times a day). Wearing clean clothes also adds to the hygiene of the body. Avoiding wearing tight clothes also helps to reduce sweat. This allows for proper circulation of air. Eating foods rich in spices are said to cause heavy perspiration. Therefore, avoiding such foods can one of the preventive measures of the condition.

In addition to these, there are a lot of medications that help to stop excessive sweating. Also, Botox injections have become a popular way to control such condition. A very different way of treating it is by giving small electrical currents to the glands. The electrical currents help in blocking sweat glands on a temporary basis.

Taking efforts to keep the body fit and healthy contributes to keep sweat at a minimum. Regularly exercising for the same is very beneficial. Doing Yoga and meditation keeps the body and mind stress free. Stress and nervousness are causes of excessive sweating.

Excessive sweating is a condition that varies from one person to another. Therefore the treatment adopted to stop the excessive sweating will also vary. Having a proper understanding of the condition and determining the exact cause is imperative before going for a treatment.
