When you move in to a home it takes a while before the house is actually suitable to live in. There are certain requirements of any building in order to move in and you may find that you are unable to move out of your old home until these are sorted out. For example if you house has no power supply that might mean you are forced to move into a building with no gas or electricity. If you arrive in your home and it's already connected to the grid then it will be quick and simple to set up energy for you home. If there is already gas and electricity in the building then it's important to notify the suppliers that you have moved in - they shouldn't turn off the electricity unless you ask them to and set up a new supplier. At the same time if there's none you will need to search for a good supplier and request that they start supplying your building by setting up a direct debit. When you do this whether you need to cancel an old supplier or have no need for this you will need to know your electricity and gas meter readings in order to inform both of your power usage and thereby prevent them from charging you for use that wasn't you. This can normally be found on the gas and electricity meters which are normally found in a cupboard or elsewhere out of the way.
